Reminding that despite a challenging period due to the pandemic both in Turkey and the world, Ülker Bisküvi continued its production, sales, distribution, and exports operations uninterruptedly, Ülker CEO Mete Buyurgan said the company continued its growth in the first half of the year.

Pointing out the importance of the food industry to the national economy and exports, Mr. Buyurgan announced the following financial figures of Ülker Bisküvi in the first half of 2020:

  • Our total revenue reached TL 4.5 billion.
  • The share of exports and foreign operations reached 39.5 percent in the total revenue and 47.4 percent in total EBITDA.
  • Our consolidated EBITDA margin has been 17.6 percent in the first six months.
  • As the leader of the Turkish food industry, we continue to invest in our brands, introduce new products to consumers, and increase employment. We have a successful performance in all categories. Our sales increased especially in biscuit and chocolate categories. We export our products to more than 100 countries. We continued to operate as a major player in the region. While continuing our leadership in the biscuit markets of Saudi Arabia and Egypt, we also maintain our strong growth trend in Kazakhstan and the Middle East.
  • We released our 5th Sustainability Report to announce the economic, social and environmental sustainability performance data of our 2019 operations in Turkey. As a result of approximately 150 improvement initiatives that we launched last year with the aim of operational excellence, we saved TL 16.2 million. As we operate with the goal of zero waste, we recycled 91 percent of our total waste. By building energy monitoring systems in all factories, we launched the instant monitoring practice. We saved 2,502 MWh energy, which is equivalent to annual energy consumption of approximately 1,500 households. Reducing our water consumption per production unit by 31.2, we have already exceeded our goal of 30 percent reduction by 2024. This is equivalent to the daily consumption of a city with a population of 3.2 million. By supporting our wasteless company model with new digital investments, we continue to achieve major savings.
