A View of Istanbul’s Domes Through Light and Memory: Yıldız Holding Hosts the “Sky Dome” Exhibition

13.05.2026

The opening of “Sky Dome,” an exhibition in which academic and artist Nevzat Yıldırım reinterprets Istanbul’s historic mosques and domes through the distinctive language of photography, took place with the participation of Murat Ülker, Member of the Board of Directors of Yıldız Holding; Mehmet Tütüncü, Chair and CEO of Yıldız Holding; and invited guests. The “Sky Dome” exhibition can be visited at the Yıldız Holding Seminar Hall until 26 July 2026, every day of the week between 09:00 and 17:00, by appointment via +90 216 524 25 00.

Yıldız Holding is hosting the “Sky Dome” exhibition in line with its “Make Happy, Be Happy” philosophy and its aim of bringing art together with society. The opening of the “Sky Dome” Exhibition was held at the Yıldız Holding Seminar Hall on the company’s Çamlıca Campus, with the participation of artist Nevzat Yıldırım, Murat Ülker, Member of the Board of Directors of Yıldız Holding, Mehmet Tütüncü, Chair and CEO of Yıldız Holding, Yıldız Holding senior management, and art lovers.

The exhibition, the result of nearly two years of dedicated work by academic and artist Nevzat Yıldırım—whose works entered the collections of international modern art museums from a young age—makes the city’s multilayered memory visible once again through light, time, space, and architectural forms.

In his photographs, created with a medium-format camera and the multiple-exposure technique, the artist constructs a layered visual narrative that multiplies time and space rather than documenting a single moment. In the works featured in the exhibition, Istanbul’s historic mosques are reinterpreted through the transformative effect of light, season, and perspective. Thus, the dome form becomes a visual and intellectual bridge between the past and the present.

Murat Ülker: “Artist Nevzat Yıldırım’s Sky Dome exhibition makes us feel the power of art to connect the past with the present, memory with the future; it offers a new perspective on the multilayered texture of this ancient city.”

Commenting on the exhibition, Murat Ülker said:

“As Yıldız Holding, we consider supporting artistic activities a responsibility in line with our ‘Make Happy, Be Happy’ philosophy. Artist Nevzat Yıldırım’s ‘Sky Dome’ exhibition addresses Istanbul’s historic mosques and domes through the distinctive language of photography, making us feel the power of art to connect the past with the present, memory with the future; it offers a new perspective on the multilayered texture of this ancient city. I find it highly valuable that our artist, Mr. Nevzat, has elevated photography—which I myself have embraced as a hobby since my youth—to this level as an art form, and that he has transformed the inspiration he draws from Istanbul into a powerful and universal artistic language. I am pleased to bring this special selection, which transforms Istanbul’s light, time, and spirit into an impressive visual narrative, together with art lovers at Yıldız Holding.”

Mehmet Tütüncü: “We will continue to support works that add value to cultural life in line with our ‘Make Happy, Be Happy’ philosophy.”

Mehmet Tütüncü, Chair and CEO of Yıldız Holding, said the following in his speech at the opening of the exhibition:

“Art is one of the most fundamental elements that strengthens, preserves, and carries forward the accumulated heritage of a civilization. As Yıldız Holding, with our ‘Make Happy, Be Happy’ philosophy, we see supporting works that add value to society’s cultural life as an important responsibility. We care deeply about bringing art together with society, supporting our artists, and contributing to the meeting of our cultural heritage with wider audiences. For this reason, throughout the year we bring the works in our art collection together with visitors through our permanent exhibitions at our Çamlıca Campus; we host different artists in our exhibition space and continue to contribute to cultural and artistic initiatives both in Türkiye and internationally. Today, we are pleased to host this special selection, the product of the meticulous work of academic and artist Mr. Nevzat Yıldırım, and we invite all art lovers to visit this exhibition at the Yıldız Holding Seminar Hall.”

Nevzat Yıldırım: “In my works, I aim to reflect the memory and depth hidden in Istanbul’s domes.”

Stating that Istanbul’s domes are among the strongest visual and intellectual bridges between the past and the present, artist Nevzat Yıldırım said the following in his speech at the opening of the exhibition:

“Many cities around the world have their own distinctive silhouettes. Istanbul’s silhouette, however, is etched in our memory through its defining feature: its domes. In this exhibition, I approached the dome as a shared space of memory that, for centuries, has brought different civilizations, cultures, and beliefs together under the same sky. For me, domes are among the strongest symbols of civilizational memory extending from the past to the present. For nearly two years, I followed Istanbul’s historic mosques, their domes, and the relationship these structures establish with light. While producing the photographs, my aim was not to document a single moment, but to multiply time and space. In the compositions I created using a medium-format camera and the multiple-exposure technique, the overlapping domes transform the image from an architectural element into an artistic narrative. Light was highly decisive for me throughout this process, because light is the alphabet of the art of photography. I produced each frame not by chance, but by waiting for the moments when light was at its strongest and most poetic. I hope this exhibition evokes new emotions and thoughts in its visitors regarding Istanbul’s historical and cultural heritage. I would like to thank Yıldız Holding for hosting the exhibition.”

The “Sky Dome” exhibition, now open to visitors at the Yıldız Holding Çamlıca Campus Seminar Hall, can be visited free of charge until 26 July 2026, every day of the week between 09:00 and 17:00, by appointment via +90 216 524 25 00.
